VNA supports the whole family, in addition to the patient
At VNA, we know that end-of-life planning is not just hard; it can be sad, and grief take its toll on the entire family. We’re here to support families and loved ones through the end and beyond.
Bereavement services
Ways we support our families
Grief can take many different forms, as do our bereavement services. We aim to meet people where they are, from the start of Hospice through death, and ongoing after loved ones have passed.
-
General support
-
Our general bereavement support begins from the time of hospice admission up to one year after your loved one’s death.
While individual services can differ based on the individual, it can include:
- Family assessment to understand who in the family needs deeper support
- Regular contacts via scheduled phone calls and in-person visits
- Access to VNA support groups
- Commemorative activities, including Time of Remembrance, writing letters to loved ones and more
-
Adult grief support groups
-
A peer-led group for adult family members, caregivers and loved ones of individuals in hospice or who have recently passed.
Sessions occur weekly and feature different topics around coping with grief, such as finding comfort, personal care and hope.
-
Grief Connections for children and teens
-
Younger generations experience grief in their own, unique ways that can be difficult for adults in their lives to understand. Our Grief Connections groups understand the importance of a caring, safe space to allow youth to process their emotions and work with them to find ways forward.
