What is LSVT BIG?

The principles of LSVT LOUD were applied to limb movement and have been documented to be effective in patients’ diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. This protocol was developed specifically to address the patients’ unique movement impairments through many repetitions of core movements that are used in daily living. Initiating the LSVT BIG program early in disease progress has the greatest impact on the quality of life but can be started at any time with a referral to the program from a physician.

What is LSVT LOUD?

Virtually every person with Parkinson’s disease will develop problems with speech that start early in the disease process. Medicine and neurosurgery typically don’t help speech disorders. The most effective way to improve speech is through speech therapy. The LSVT LOUD program was developed in 1987 and has been scientifically studied for nearly 20 years. The treatment does not train people for shouting or yelling; rather LSVT LOUD uses loudness training to bring the voice to an improved healthy vocal loudness with no strain.

What does LSVT stand for?

Lee Silverman Voice Treatment

Does VNA work alone when providing wound care?

Our home health services may work with a Wound Care Center depending on the nature of the wound.

Does VNA provide training for patients and caregivers to care for wounds?

Yes. One of our goals is for people to stay in their home instead of being admitted to the hospital, and that means being able to independently care for wounds that aren’t too complex. If it’s a superficial wound, we want caregivers and patients to be able to care for it themselves.
