Evaluation and Treatment

Our nurses provide wound evaluation and treatment recommendations and work closely with the entire home care team to coordinate your care. We also work closely with you, your physician and your regular caregivers to offer appropriate care and instructional guidance.

VNA Home Health’s wound care services include Vacuum Assisted Closure (VAC), dressing changes and in-home instruction and guidance for wounds.

Wound Care Specialist FAQs

What do I need to know about wound care?

Learn more about wound care and some of the most commonly asked questions we get from patients and caregivers about our services.

Does VNA work alone when providing wound care?

Our home health services may work with a Wound Care Center depending on the nature of the wound.

Does VNA provide training for patients and caregivers to care for wounds?

Yes. One of our goals is for people to stay in their home instead of being admitted to the hospital, and that means being able to independently care for wounds that aren’t too complex. If it’s a superficial wound, we want caregivers and patients to be able to care for it themselves.

Does VNA provide everything a wound care patient needs?

There are some insurance companies that require patients to go through them to purchase supplies; please check with your provider to see what requirements they may have. Otherwise, we provide everything else.

What is the difference between wound care and enterostomal therapy (ET)?

VNA provides both of these services. Enterostomal therapy is for patients that have colostomies and other procedures that create artificial openings in the skin and require some type of appliance. Our nurses are adept at applying those appliances and diagnosing any specific needs patients may have because not everyone is shaped the same.

What qualifications do VNA’s wound care specialists have?

All of VNA’s ET and wound care specialists adhere to the rigorous standards of practice established by the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB).

How does VNA support wound care patients beyond just treatment and pain management?

The overarching goal of VNA’s ET therapy services is not only to treat wounds and manage a patient’s pain, but also to advance their ability to care for their wounds and watch for signs of infections or other complications.

What types of wounds can VNA help treat?
  • Burns

  • Negative pressure wound therapy
What services are included under wound care?
