Proving Spiritual Guidance at the End of Life

A hospice chaplain is a critical member of our hospice team. They are focused on the emotional and spiritual needs of the patient, family members and entire care team as the end of life nears.

Guiding care teams and families through the end of life.

VNA’s Hospice Chaplains are nondenominational guides who provide spiritual and emotional support to patients, families and care teams throughout the end-of-life journey. They support individuals through questions and unknowns related to death, provide comfort and solace in difficult moments and support caregivers throughout the entire process.

What does a Chaplain do?

The Chaplain conducts worship and administers sacraments, as per the preferences of the family served. The Chaplain is also able to perform other religious ceremonies and services that support the loved one and family through the end-of-life journey.

Our Chaplains know that you and your family have needs that are unique. They are experts at navigating the many types of emotional and spiritual challenges that can arise near the end of life.

What to expect

with Chaplain Care

Unsure when is the right time to call for a Chaplain? There is no right answer, but here are some ways our Chaplain services can supplement physical medical care.

Early Support for the Patient

When brought in at an early stage of Hospice care, Chaplains help patients cope with their illness and tap into their internal sources of strength.

Working with Religious Affiliations (and without)

Chaplains are trained to help people of all faith backgrounds, including those who do not identify with any spiritual group.

Ensuring a Sense of Acceptance

Through Legacy and Life review activities, Chaplains help patients find a sense of completion with their journey and acceptance for what’s to come. They also help the patient and their family members relive moments of joy together.

Using Art to Inspire and Calm

Through activities like playing music, singing, sharing imagery and other artistic outlets, Chaplains are able to provide a tranquil and calm space for your loved one during their end-of-life journey.
