Common reasons for an IV Infusion as part of home health care
Disorders and diseases: i.e. Crohn’s disease, Gastrointestinal disorders, Genetic disorders, Immune deficiency, Malnutrition, Multiple sclerosis, and Thyroid eye disease.
Short-term medication delivery: IVs are often used to deliver medications that can’t be taken by mouth, i.e. antibiotics or chemotherapy medications
Ongoing pain management: As patients manage their chronic pain and conditions, IV Infusion can support their ongoing medication and pain management.
IV Infusion Services FAQs
What do I need to know about IV infusion services?
Learn more about IV infusion services and some of the most commonly asked questions we get from patients and caregivers about our services.
-
What sets VNA’s services apart from other home health providers?
-
What sets us apart is the complexity of the medications we’re able to provide as our nurses have the level of skill necessary to provide more complex medications. We also take a holistic approach that provides a comprehensive look at the patient and all their service needs by working interdisciplinary between providers under our roof.
-
Does VNA provide the medications being administered?
-
Yes, but we are not ourselves the pharmacy, so medications need to come from another referral source once there’s an order from a physician. Any delays in care related to being able to access medications are on the pharmacy’s end.
-
What background do IV Infusion nurses have?
-
All of the nurses in this program are registered IV nurses specially trained in infusion drug administration and line maintenance. They follow national standards of practice established by the Infusion Nurses Society and are highly skilled in clinical monitoring of IV therapy. Many of our IV team RNs are certified by the Intravenous Nurses Certification Corporation and hold the Certified Registered Nurse Infusion (CRNI®) credential, the only nationally recognized and accredited certification in infusion nursing. To ensure best practices and up-to-date services, our RNs’ skills in IV therapy are revalidated annually.
