FAQs

Questions you may have

Here are the most common questions we get from patients and caregivers regarding services at VNA.

What is VNA Hospice Wish?

We try to identify a particular last wish a patient may have, something they’ve wanted to do that’s attainable and we could help facilitate. We will work with other third party providers and see how we can provide that for our patient.

How long do bereavement services for hospice caregivers last?

We provide bereavement services for 13 months after a patient passes per Medicare requirements to help them get through the first year of milestones, but if a caregiver needs a little more help than 13 months, we are still committed to providing services.

What services are provided under hospice?
  • Individualized care plans
  • Pain/comfort management
  • Educational support
  • Spiritual & emotional support
  • Caregiver respite & support
  • Grief & bereavement support
  • Volunteer opportunities
Who is hospice for?

Hospice is for patients who receive a life-limiting diagnosis of six months or less, are no longer seeking curative medical treatment and are able to remain at home.

Does VNA only treat heart failure patients?

Our service is called “cardiac services,” but the AHA focuses on heart failure, so that’s the overall umbrella under which we focus.

What can VNA provide patients with heart failure?

We can help with IV infusion of Inotropic medication, assist with left ventricular assisting devices (LVAD), provide comprehensive assessments and provide strategies for energy conservation through PT and OT.

What types of surgeries does Strong Foundations help patients recover from?

The two most common surgeries are knee replacements and hip replacements.

Why is it important that Strong Foundations meet patients in their homes?

Meeting patients in their homes allows us to personally witness any daily challenges they face, so we can adjust their customized care plan accordingly. Our home health therapists also teach key techniques to regular caregivers, family and friends, so they may further assist in recovery.

What home health services does Strong Foundations provide patients?
  • We work closely with primary care physicians to create personalized treatment plans to aid in patients’ recoveries.
  • After a hospital discharge, we provide physical and occupational therapy, as ordered by a patient’s  physician, along with guidance on assorted activities for healthy daily living.
  • We provide safety tips, exercises and educational materials to optimize a patient’s post-op recovery.
What does LSVT treatment consist of?

Both LOUD and BIG treatments consist of 16 sessions for 4 consecutive days a week over 4 weeks. Each session is one hour with daily homework practice and carryover exercises.

What makes VNA’s offering of LSVT unique?

The fact we have 22 certified LSVT clinicians in our Rehab Staff makes us better-equipped to provide the large volume of patients we get who require this therapy.

What is LSVT BIG?

The principles of LSVT LOUD were applied to limb movement and have been documented to be effective in patients’ diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. This protocol was developed specifically to address the patients’ unique movement impairments through many repetitions of core movements that are used in daily living. Initiating the LSVT BIG program early in disease progress has the greatest impact on the quality of life but can be started at any time with a referral to the program from a physician.
